Applicants to the Lineman Apprentice Skills Training Program must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Be at least 18 years of age
• Possess a high school diploma or GED
• Hold a valid driver’s license
• Be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
• Be physically capable of lifting 75–100 pounds
• Be able to work at heights and in various weather conditions
• Be prepared to pursue or already possess a CDL

Due to the physically demanding nature of line work, students should be prepared for strenuous outdoor activity, climbing, heavy lifting, and working in challenging environments.

Meeting these prerequisites helps ensure students are ready to safely participate in both classroom instruction and hands-on field training.

The IMEA Lineman Apprentice Skills Training Program runs Monday through Friday for six weeks (minimum of 8 Hrs. per day) of intensive, in-person instruction and hands-on field training.

Students receive structured classroom education combined with practical outdoor training designed to simulate real job site conditions. This immersive schedule ensures consistent skill development and real-world preparation.

Safety remains the foundation of all program activities. IMEA-certified instructors maintain a safety-first approach in both classroom and field environments.
